Supported Group Types in Entra ID

Connect to AD manages Entra ID objects through the Microsoft Graph API. As a result, only object types supported by the Microsoft Graph API can be managed.

This limitation is most noticeable when working with group mappings. Connect to AD currently supports:

• Security Groups
• Microsoft 365 Groups

The following group types are not supported:

• Mail-Enabled Security Groups
• Distribution Groups

Since these group types are unavailable through the Microsoft Graph API, Connect to AD does not support them, and they will not appear in the list when adding a group mapping.
